REPETITIVE BEATS

By Kathryn Gardner

Thatcher's Britain. A Disillusioned Generation

Acid House, the 2nd summer of love, and weekend after weekend of pure ecstasy.

But what happens when the parties are better that the real world? And what do you do when the law says there can be no more?

What’s the alternative? A lager fuelled fight on the high street? or a brawl in the terraces? Tiny skirts and free shots?

It may be legal but it’s far from better.

And someone just spilt your pint.

Put down your punt. This is the real Oxford. This is a revolution.

REPETITIVE BEATS is a high octane play set between 1989 -The 2nd summer of love, and 1994 -The year of the Criminal Justice & Public Order Act in Oxfordshire.

With a live DJ, original music, real footage and plenty of classics from the day, REPETITIVE BEATS is a high octane play set during one of the most influential and hedonistic movements in modern music.

Set during the peak of the ‘town and gown’ problem faced by Oxford and Blackbird Leys - one of the most notorious council estates of the 1990’s, famed for its joyriding, crime and violence.

Played at Vault Festival.

Original Cast: Amy Ambrose, Paul Collin Thomas, Ian Horgan and Kathryn Gardner

Directed by Kathryn Gardner
